Poem "Buicks" Published in Penmanship Mag
Buicks
He loves the life of others lives
The talk of tours down beautiful rivers
And the distance your head gets in moving
His buick is the color sky sometimes makes
With grass around the tires
The oil is changed though
And he knows it’s gonna move
To find California someday
Reaching back
Recovering his fermenting sight
In the finery of alcohol
His father, taught ancient history
Doesn’t drink like him
Nor wear a belt
But his kitchen smells so good
Like the South
And the tanning of pigs
In black heavy pans
The air is edible
His father is dying though
Like the South
From tanning pigs
And something took his life too
The house sits over there now
Groaning in the weeds
A silenced out violence
Like the Roman Coliseum
But thats when they lived beside me
In 1992

Slide Guitar Tips
Is there a better Song Man than John Prine?
Everybody that I ask seem to say it is because everything has been done.....which I think is complete BS...maybe it's the industry whispering in the artists ears.....

Red Tub Show Review by Bert Pittman
When I was in high school, I did the US Census to earn a little extra dough. One summer evening on the front porch of a rundown wooden shack on a rundown street on the run down side of town (with all my official survey forms in hand), I felt the the whole place shaking-- not vibrating but shaking-- from the foot stompin', hand clappin', good times singin' and shoutin' goin' on inside.
At the cozy Red Tub in West Columbia, SC, Mr. Todd Cecil and his fingerpicking slide guitar did some very fine shack shakin' of his own. Todd's slide pickin' guitar had the entire audience and staff loosing the nails and screws in the Tub's upstairs wooden floors, hallways, and skylight. With original songs, instrumentals, and a wonderful cover of Neil Young's "Helpless," Todd didn't serve up some all- too-predictable Delta corn syrup; he laid down a great big dollop of hardcore, sliding Piedmont picking blues that had the whole Tub a rockin.' We're talking real cane blackstrap here. Cause I love both these blues styles, Todd certainly loosened my floor joists, since he delivers both of these great traditions at the same time!
So if you want some of that foot stompin,' hand clappin,' front porch shakin," good times music, drop every thing and check out Todd Cecil. He'll rattle you in all the right places.

CD Review by Jake Nuckolls
"Todd Cecil – Sweet Cynthia and the Nashville Music Co.
This is the surprise you’ve been waiting for. A mixture of folk, blues, and slide country, Cecil croons/growls his way through thirteen tracks of feel good music. With his talent on the guitar and penchant for folk styles it’s a wonder that Chris Thile or Gary Jules hasn’t picked up on this guy. Give it time though, we’ll see much more of Mr. Cecil."
